Run form for lifters: stop trying to look like a runner

By Jhanine·Mar 28, 2026·7 min read

Runners who lift and lifters who run have two different sets of priorities. Coach for what you are, not what Instagram says you should be.

Cadence before form

The single biggest win for strong athletes learning to run: cadence. Aim for 170–180 steps per minute. Your form will self-organise around it.

Let your arms stay quiet

Big lifters love to pump their arms like they're benching. Relax them. Hands loose. Elbows at 90. Save the power for the legs.
